There are few Domaines in Burgundy that garner, and rightfully deserve, as much praise than that of Coche-Dury. And yet, for all of the superlatives used to describe this elusive producer, they are all justified. This is a source of beautifully balanced, fine but deeply layered wine that is nigh on impossible to find, and demand continues to soar. It’s a credit to both the benchmark viticulture and exacting winemaking approach that have set a legendary standard across the Côte d'Or’s diverse landscape.

Today Domaine Coche-Dury is synonymous with Meursault. Whatever is made available is quickly seized upon by the cognoscenti, and the current custodian, Raphaël, who took over from his father, Jean-François, in 2010, has every intention to lead the Domaine to greater heights.

Coche-Dury’s story begins in 1975, when Jean-François Coche’s marriage to Odile Dury, and the subsequent adding to his family holdings, formed the current Domaine. And although he commenced work in his family vineyards alongside his father, Georges, at the age of fourteen, it was only at this point that Jean-François was able to practice and advance his own philosophies.

Today Domaine Coche-Dury’s holdings comprise nine hectares of vineyards, across a myriad of parcels, over six villages. Remarkably, no clones have ever been planted by the Domaine and the vines are, mostly, all old which contribute to the signature concentration and complexity that the wines are renowned for.

Vines & Wine

• Detail-driven viticulture

• Careful growing, low yields, perfectly ripe fruit and delicate handling.

• Traditional winemaking: extended lees contact, followed by regular bâtonnage (stirring of the lees).

• Fermentation takes place in oak casks, with a high proportion being new, but the approach may vary between vintages. After anywhere between 15-24 months of ageing, the wines are bottled unfiltered.
